In work with system involved youth with mental health diagnoses, providers must understand the origins and meaning of clients’ diagnoses. Participants will learn about the history of mental health diagnosing, the definition of diagnoses, and cultural considerations impacting mental health diagnoses.

Training Description
In work with system involved youth with mental health diagnoses, service provider must understand the origins and meaning of clients’ diagnoses. In this class participants will learn about the history of mental health diagnosing, the definition of a mental health diagnoses and cultural considerations as they impact mental health diagnoses. DSM-5 diagnoses that are most commonly used with children, adolescents and young adults will be reviewed in depth. Case vignettes will be used to illustrate diagnoses and there will be time to discuss cases.
