Toxic Masculinity and Its Impact on System-Involved Youth

Training Description

This training will support participants in exploring how our culture's narrow definition of masculinity is not only impacting boys and young men who are system-involved but also all of us. Participants will reflect on their own socialization into these ideologies and how it has shaped them today. Throughout our session we will collectively look at the ways that rigid gender norms and narrow ideas of masculinity have led to disproportionate violence against trans and queer folks, anti-LGBTQ rhetoric, and gender-based violence. Participants will generate examples of toxic masculinity and gender norms showing up within their efforts to support system-involved youth and families. They’ll also explore strategies to interrupt these narratives and support system-involved youth to build positive masculine identities.
