Training Description
One in twelve youth experience the death of a parent or sibling by the time they are 18 years of age. Of those, one in five children are bereaved due to a substance use-related death (CBEM, 2023). By fostering a compassionate, trauma-informed approach, this empowers participants to challenge social myths and misconceptions that often hinder access to services for system-involved youth and families. The training will cover the intersections of grief experienced with substance use-related deaths, addiction from a family disease model, and considerations when working with system-involved youth.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
● Identify 3 overlapping themes of grief & loss experienced in substance use-related deaths.
