Training Description

One of the most significant challenges for clinicians these days is effectively collaborating with school systems operating within the Shelter in Place Orders and the Digital Media Framework.  An additional challenge is to effectively engage at-risk youth in therapy sessions by video conferencing, especially those perceived as being challenging, like those with behavioral challenges, as well as patients and clients with substance use disorder. Part of what makes this challenging is building rapport relationships with school site staff you do not know and within systems that are everchanging in the current climate as well as the challenge of  ”reading the client” within the limitations of the video conferencing platform. We will learn how to foster relationships with various school site staff we must collaborate with in the Digital Media Framework and learn engaging techniques in the video conferencing modality to support clients towards healthier lifestyles.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will explore how schools are setting up systems of support and communications within the Digital Media Framework in order to coordinate with outside service providers.
  • Participants will learn effective collaboration methods with specific school site staff  in order to gain access to support their clients towards healthy behaviors.
  • Participants will explore unique therapeutic video conferencing strategies to support individuals to change problematic pattern behaviors that promote the use of digital media tools while, incorporating Motivational Interviewing philosophies.
