Training Description

This training will explain the basic principles of Parenting with Love and Logic (PWLL), including goals and objectives as well as core principles and techniques which can be applied within efforts to support System involved Youth (SIY) and families. The training will include a detailed explanation of the two important goals of PWLL including establishing boundaries with empathy and nurturing responsibility as well as self-discipline.

  • Participants will be able to identify the three goals/objectives of PWLL.
  • Participants will be able to explain the two goals of PWLL.
  • Participants will be able to identify three reasons PWLL is beneficial for system involved youth.

Agenda

9:00-9:45AM  Introduction

· How I learned about Parenting with Love and Logic (PWLL)

· Brief Summary/Explanation of Parenting with Love and Logic

· Importance of the topic for everyone and particularly System Involved Youth

9:45-10:30AM  Setting the Foundation: Love and Connection

· Building a strong parent-child relationship based on love and empathy

· Importance of unconditional love and acceptance

· Strategies for effective communication and active listening

10:30-11:00AM  Video Presentation

· Introduction to video

· Video of a therapy session using PWLL

11:00AM-12:00PM  Establishing Boundaries with Empathy

· Setting Clear and Consistent Limits

· Using Empathy to Enforce Consequences

· Allowing children to experience the natural consequences of their actions

· Interactive Exercise: Roleplay Strategies

Meet Our Trainer

Brooke Hailey, PhD, is a licensed marriage and family therapist. She completed her undergraduate work at New York University and then received her masters from Antioch University and her PhD from Pacifica Graduate Institute. She has been in private practice in Los Angeles for more than twenty years. She is also the owner and clinical director of New Directions, an intensive outpatient program for eating disorders. Brooke works with adults, adolescents, couples and families. Though she specializes in the treatment of eating disorders, Brooke works with clients who have a variety of issues from depression, anxiety and addiction to relationship issues.

This course meets the qualifications for (5.25) BBS CE hours for LCSWs, LMFTs, LPCCs, and LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences & is provided by Fred Finch Youth Center, CAMFT Provider #045295.
