Human Sexuality: Assessing, Educating and Intervening with Youth and Their Caretakers (Day 2)

***This is day 2 of a 2-day course and attendance on both days is required. 

Training Description

Promoting health and satisfying sexuality starts with attitudes and age appropriate education. Many system-involved youth have had negative sexual experience which may impact their sexuality throughout their lifespan. In this course learn to understand, identify and talk about sex and sexuality with youth, caregivers, family members and school staff. Topics to be covered include: anatomy and physiology, sexual identity, sexual diversity, cultural considerations, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), birth control, menstruation, sexual functioning, sexual dysfunctions and disorders, sexual consent, healthy relationships, and sex therapy. This course meets the pre-licensure requirements for 4.5 of the 10 required hours of Human Sexuality training for individuals applying for a license with the Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Learning Objectives

• Describe at least 4 types of birth control;
• Describe the symptoms and treatment methods for at least 4 STDs;
• Explain healthy and unhealthy sexual functioning;
• Define the elements of a healthy relationships;
• Assess for sexual problems that their clients might be experiencing;
• Identify, address or refer clients who are experiencing sexual dysfunctions

Meet Our Trainer

Rachel Michaelsen, LCSW, is a clinical social worker who has worked in HMOs, public agencies, and private practice as both a mental-health provider and a supervisor for over thirty years. Prior to graduate school she worked in community health clinics where she provided patient education about STDs, reproductive health and birth control. She has taught courses in Human Sexuality, DSM-5, clinical supervision, law and ethics, childhood psychopathology, time management, boundaries, vicarious traumatization, trauma informed care and energy psychology at universities, conferences, and mental-health agencies. She has a private psychotherapy practice, provides sound healing sessions and is also the Chair of the Humanitarian Committee for the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology.

Day 2 of this course meets the qualifications for (4.5) BBS CEUs for LCSWs and MFTs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences & is provided by Fred Finch Youth Center, CAMFT Provider #045295.
