Training Description

In this interactive workshop, participants will learn how to work more effectively with systems-involved male clients through a greater understanding of gender socialization, culturally responsive practices, and the impact of environmental stressors and systemic oppression.  Come learn how to draw out youth emotions, ideas, voice, and motivation so that we may achieve targeted client outcomes and collectively build more peaceful, just, and equitable communities.                

Learning Objectives

  • To explore the need for gender and culturally responsive services with systems- involved male youth clients, identifying 3-5 important reasons why such services are integral to effective and equitable practice  
  • To identify 3-5 impacts of gender socialization, environmental stressors and systemic oppression on systems-involved male clients 
  • To learn 3-5 ways of responding to male client needs in a gender and culturally responsive manner    
  • To plan 3-5 ways of utilizing information gained at the workshop to better serve male clients and develop more just and equitable communities 

 

Agenda

9:00-9:45am Welcome, overview, intros and opening rituals/circle 

9:45-11:00am Identifying the urgent need for effective and equitable practice with male youth of color 

11:00-11:15am MORNING BREAK (CEUs will not be issued for this time)

11:15am-12:30pm Gender and culturally responsive strategies: Deconstructing and reconstructing masculinity including gender role socialization, environmental stressors, and systemic oppression  

12:30-1:30pm LUNCH BREAK (CEUs will not be issued for this time)

1:30-1:45pm Post-lunch reflections and topic related energizer 

1:45-3:00pm Gender and culturally responsive strategies: Trauma and healing informed practice & creative expression for social change using media/arts  

3:00-3:15pm AFTERNOON BREAK (CEUs will not be issued for this time)

3:15-4:15pm Focus on local organizations doing this work, final questions, and resource share

4:15-4:30pm Closing rituals/circle and evaluations 

This course meets the qualifications for (6) BBS CEUs for LCSWs and MFTs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences & is provided by Fred Finch Youth Center, CAMFT Provider #045295.
