Training Description

Ever wonder how to handle when a youth brings up the topic of race at school? In this session we will unpack how the concept of race influences our schools, how our own identities are connected to our relationships with our youth, and how we can approach conversations involving race with youth who are system-involved or at high risk for system involvement. Participants will leave with tools to approach each new situation given your contexts.


Learning Objectives

·         Identify the 9 characteristics of white supremacy culture and explain how these can play out in the following 4 combinations of interactions within school systems: 1) between yourself and a system involved youth, 2) between a system-involved youth and other students, 3) between system-involved youth and other adults in the school system, 4) between adults in the system when discussing system involved youth.
