Training Description

Suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth aged 15-24. It's crucial for social service providers to learn how to assess suicide, know what to do if a youth endorses suicidal ideation, and how to foster protective factors. The training will also touch on helping youth grieve friends and family lost to suicide.

Learning Objective

1. Participants will be to identify at least 1 risk factor for suicide

2. Participants will be able to identify at least 1 protective factor for youth contemplating suicide

3. Participants will be able to have conversations with youth about suicide

Agenda 

1:30-1:45pm Introduction

1:45-3:00pm Suicide overview

3:00-3:15pm Break (CEUs will not be offered for this time)

3:15-4:15pm Assessment and protective factors

Meet Our Trainers

Nicole Klasey is a clinical psychologist who has worked with trauma survivors for 14 years. She currently consults with agencies on trauma-informed care, programming for commercially sexually exploited youth, vicarious trauma, and leadership development. Nicole has been training multidisciplinary audiences on trauma-related topics since 2015 and provides guest lectures at local universities on human trafficking.

This course meets the qualifications for (2.75) BBS CEUs for LCSWs, LMFTs, LPCCs, and LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences & is provided by Fred Finch Youth Center, CAMFT Provider #045295.
