Training Description

Sports can have many positive benefits for system-involved youth such as learning teamwork, coping with adversity, communication skills, etc. This training will teach those who support system involved youth about the positive benefits of sports and physical exercise. Participants will also learn strategies to use sports to improve outcomes with system-involved youth.

Learning Objectives

1. Participants will be able to identify at least 1 benefit of sports for system-involved youth.

2. Participants will be able to identify at least 1 way to increase the positive impact of sports with traumatized youth

3. Participants will be able to describe the connection between trauma and its impact on the body

Agenda 

9:00am-9:15am  Welcome and introductions

9:15am-11:00am  The impact of trauma and the body, the benefit of sports for system-involved youth

11:00am-11:15am  Break (CEUs will not be offered for this time)

11:15am-12:45pm  Strategies to engage system-involved youth in sports and exercise

12:45pm-1:00pm  Closing and evaluations

Meet Our Trainers

Nicole Klasey is a clinical psychologist who has worked with trauma survivors for 14 years. She currently consults with agencies on trauma-informed care, programming for commercially sexually exploited youth, vicarious trauma, and leadership development. Nicole has been training multidisciplinary audiences on trauma-related topics since 2015 and provides guest lectures at local universities on human trafficking.

Jeff Kelly has worked with at-risk youth and transitional age youth for a number of years. After his career in the NFL, he worked was a supervisor at AmericCorp where he helped prepare transitional age youth for the workforce. He has also trained high school students and mentored young adults.

This course meets the qualifications for (3.75) BBS CEUs for LCSWs, LMFTs, LPCCs, and LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences & is provided by Fred Finch Youth Center, CAMFT Provider #045295.
