Training Description
Many system-involved youth struggle to regulate their emotions and can dwell on self-defeating thoughts. Mindfulness is not only a helpful skill for social service providers, foster parents, guardians, and natural support people to practice in order to be present and engaged with system involved youth, but it is also a great skill to teach system-involved youth to practice themselves, so they don’t get lost in their thoughts and emotions. Mindfulness helps teach system-involved youth that it’s possible to not dwell on negative thoughts and emotions.
Learning Objectives
1. Participants will learn how to describe the benefits of mindfulness
2. Participants will learn how to teach system-involved youth about mindfulness
3. Participants will be able to practice mindfulness skills in preparation for modeling these practices for system involved youth.
