Training Description
Some parents of system-involved youth have struggled or are struggling with substance use. It’s important for providers, foster parents, and natural supports to understand the impact parental substance use has on youths’ development. This training will provide an overview of how parental substance use impacts youths’ physical development, social development, academic development, and emotional development. Providers, foster parents, and natural supports will learn strategies for how to support system-involved youth when parental substance use is prevalent.
Learning Objectives
1. Participants will be able to identify at least 1 way parental substance use impacts system-involved youths’ physical development
2. Participants will be able to identify at least 1 way parental substance use impacts system-involved youths’ emotional development
3. Participants will be able to identify at least 1 strategy to support system-involved youth whose parents abuse substances

Meet Our Trainers
Nicole Klasey is a clinical psychologist who has worked with trauma survivors for 14 years. She currently consults with agencies on trauma-informed care, programming for commercially sexually exploited youth, vicarious trauma, and leadership development. Nicole has been training multidisciplinary audiences on trauma-related topics since 2015 and provides guest lectures at local universities on human trafficking.
This course meets the qualifications for (3.75) BBS CEUs for LCSWs, LMFTs, LPCCs, and LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences & is provided by Fred Finch Youth Center, CAMFT Provider #045295.
