Training Description

System-involved youth may turn to alcohol as a means of coping with trauma, an unstable home environment, bullying at school, etc. It’s important social service providers, foster parents and natural supports to talk with system-involved youth and young adults about their alcohol consumption and it’s impact of the relationships, school performance and work. It’s also important to talk with system-involved youth and young adults about strategies to consume alcohol responsibly.

Learning Objectives

· Participants will be able to identify at least one reason system-involved youth misuse alcohol.

· Participants will be able identify at least one harm reduction strategy to teach system-involved youth about alcohol.

· Participants will be able to identify at least one strategy for talking with youth about their alcohol use.

Meet Our Trainers

Nicole Klasey is a clinical psychologist who has worked with trauma survivors for 14 years. She currently consults with agencies on trauma-informed care, programming for commercially sexually exploited youth, vicarious trauma, and leadership development. Nicole has been training multidisciplinary audiences on trauma-related topics since 2015 and provides guest lectures at local universities on human trafficking.

This course meets the qualifications for (3.75) BBS CE hours for LCSWs, LMFTs, LPCCs, and LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences & is provided by Fred Finch Youth Center, CAMFT Provider #045295.
