Training Description

System involved youth have significant barriers to healthy eating. Not only do they bear the burden of their family experience and history, but they also have cultural, logistical, access and medical barriers to overcome. In this interactive training, participants will examine, discuss, and challenge issues related to eating disorders and the multiple ways that healthy eating is made difficult for these youth. Learn techniques to talk with them about food challenges, as well as tools that will help to support them as they are continually challenged with how to choose healthy options for eating. Consider strategies to use while helping them work through their attitudes and behaviors. Discover tools to use and teach so they can better interact and advocate for themselves. Be a part of helping them avoid negative outcomes as they deal with barriers that are in the way of healthy eating and living.

Learning Objective

· Participants will be able to identify at least 2 types of healthy eating strategies and explain how to successfully incorporate these changes into lifestyle habits.

· Participants will be able to explain the importance of self-reflection and integrate this awareness when supporting system involved youth to overcome the barriers to healthy eating and avoiding disorders.

· Participants will learn 3 strategies for personal wellness as they commit to the task of looking at their own barriers to healthy eating by creating personal awareness and then using it in their practice to help system involved youth to do the same.
