Training Description
The training will begin with an overview of issues faced by the LGBTQ community such as discrimination and the overrepresentation of LGBTQ youth in the Foster Care and Juvenile Justice systems. The training will then look at risk factors and pathways of entry into sexual exploitation and commercial sexual exploitation for LGBTQ system involved youth. The training will then focus on experiences of LGBTQ system involved youth in the commercial sex industry. The training will conclude with strategies to more effectively work with Foster Care and Juvenile Justice involved LGBTQ youth with experiences in the commercial sex industry.
Learning Objectives
· Participants will be able to increase their language sensitivity with LGBTQ youth.
· Participants will be able to identify 3 examples of discrimination LGBTQ youth encounter throughout their lifetime.
· Participants will be able to increase their understanding of the intersection of family rejection, homelessness, and involvement in sexual exploitation and commercial sexual exploitation.
· Participants will be able to identify at least 2 pathways of entry for sexual exploitation and commercial sexual exploitation for LGBTQ system involved youth.
· Participants will be able to increase their understanding of the intersection of involvement in the foster care and/or juvenile justice systems and involvement in sexual exploitation and commercial sexual exploitation.
· Participants will be able to identify at least 2 needs of LGBTQ system involved youth who are being commercially and sexually exploited.
