Training Description

This mindfulness-based training will offer those who support system involved youth engaging tools, practices, and strategies that can support system involved youth in building self-regulation and co-regulation skills. We will explore trauma informed mindfulness and mindful movement strategies, exercises, and activities. Participants will directly engage in and learn somatic mindfulness practices, art and nature-based activities they can use when supporting system involved youth to cope when triggered and build self-regulation skills and support youth to co-regulate and cultivate self-awareness and resilience.

Learning Objective

· Identify at least 2 mindfulness and trauma informed, somatic based practices which can be supportive and culturally relevant for system involved youth;

· Explain how mindfulness-based strategies can support both healthy co-regulation for system involved youth with behavioral challenges and also help system involved youth cultivate body awareness and create connections between sensations and emotions.

· Acquire at least 2 compassion, gratitude and self-acceptance practices for system involved youth.

Meet Our Trainer

Ursula Elsa (they/she) was born and raised in the beautiful land of the Bay Area, Ohlone Territory. She has been teaching mindfulness and nature connection to youth in the Bay Area for 8 years and is currently leading rites of passage and nature connection programming for Gaia Passages. Ursula is passionate about creating programming for LGBTQI+ and neurodiverse communities. She is also a trained doula and an advocate of parent’s rights in the birth community.

This course meets the qualifications for (4.25) BBS CE hours for LCSWs, LMFTs, LPCCs, and LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences & is provided by Fred Finch Youth Center, CAMFT Provider #045295.
