Training Description
Young people have a wide range of experience when it comes to social media. For some it is a tool that bridges connection to youth around the world, helps them explore their interests, and creates a sense of belonging. For others, social media is a site of cyber bullying, exclusion, and creates feelings of anxiety and stress. Social media is a powerful tool and this workshop explores strategies and exercises for youth to find a healthy and balanced relationship with social media.
Learning Objectives
- Engage in mindfulness and self awareness activities to explore their relationship to social media
- Discuss the multitude of ways social media impacts youth
- Explore tools to help youth evaluate their relationship to social media
- Learn activities to help youth create a healthy balance in their relationship to social media
Agenda
1:00-1:15 pm Welcome, Housekeeping, and Mindfulness Practice
1:15-2:00 pm Introduction to Social Media and Its Impact on Teens
2:00-2:15 pm BREAK (CEUs will not be issued for this time)
2:15-3:00 pm Activity #2: Creating Safe Structure and Boundaries with Technology
3:00-3:45 pm Activity # 3: Self Esteem, Anxiety, and the Toxic Aspects of Social Media
