Training Description

Given the recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and many others, it is has ignited social injustices that have existed in the United States. It is important for social service providers to have discussions with at-risk youth about social injustices that impact their families and their communities. In this webinar, the trainers will discuss how to navigate these difficult conversations.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to discuss social injustices with foster youth.
  • Participants will be able to adapt their discussions about social injustice based on the foster youth’s developmental age.
  • Participants will be able to actively listen to youth share their thoughts and emotions about recent social injustices.

9:00am-9:20am: Welcome and Introductions

9:20am-10:00am: Preparing for difficult conversations about social injustice

10:00am-10:30am: Brief history of social injustice

10:30am-10:45am: Break (CEUs will not be issued for this time)

10:45am-11:45am: Strategies for discussing social injustice

11:45am-12:00pm: Question & Answers, Evaluations, Closing
