Training Description

This training will support those that support system-involved youth in understanding gender identities and how pronouns can be an important piece of affirming and respecting a person’s identity. Participants will explore definitions related to gender and the ways that gendered rules and norms have shaped their lives and the lives of youth who are system-involved or at high risk of system-involvement. This training provides participants with an examination of how we have been socialized in terms of our gender and deconstruct what is socially constructed. Through self-reflection around their own gender story, those that support system involved youth will reflect on their socialization around gender roles, expressions and influences. This exploration will in turn support participants in interrupting gender rules and gender norms in their support of youth who are system-involved or at high risk of system-involvement.
