🚲 Community Collaboration in Action: How One Bike is Making a Big Impact

At Fred Finch, we believe that meaningful change often begins with a single act of kindness—and a strong community behind it. One recent story from our Enhanced Care Management (ECM) program beautifully illustrates just how powerful that combination can be.

Meeting a Real Need Through Partnership

When a 12-year-old participant in our ECM program needed help getting to summer activities, the challenge was clear: she had no bicycle and had been walking long distances on her own. Her family had no means to provide one.

That’s when our ECM team stepped in. Determined to find a solution, they researched local resources and discovered The Bikery, a nonprofit bike shop in Oakland that offers sliding-scale pricing, bike donations, and hands-on repair education for youth.

Our team reached out—and The Bikery didn’t hesitate. Through this thoughtful collaboration, they generously donated a bike to support the participant’s independence and well-being.

More Than Just a Bike

Thanks to this partnership, the young girl now has safe, reliable transportation—and a little more freedom, independence, and joy to simply be a kid and enjoy her summer.

This moment reflects something much bigger: a shared commitment to uplifting underserved communities through trust, partnership, and responsive, compassionate care. Together, we’re making a difference—one act of kindness, one young person at a time.

The Enhanced Care Management (ECM) program at Fred Finch provides intensive, whole-person care coordination for children, youth, and families facing complex physical, behavioral, and social needs. Through a team-based, trauma-informed approach, ECM helps participants navigate systems of care, access vital community resources, and build stability in their daily lives. Whether it’s connecting families to housing, medical care, mental health support, or everyday essentials—ECM meets participants where they are, walking alongside them on the path to greater well-being.
