Training Description

Relapse prevention planning is helpful with system involved youth struggling with a variety of issues including substance use, self-harm, engagement in the commercial sex industry, etc. This training will provide an overview of relapse prevention planning strategies which can help improve outcomes for system involved youth.

Learning Objective

1. Participants will be able to identify at least 1 type of relapse.

2. Participants will be able to explain the importance of relapse prevention.

3. Participants will be able to identify at least 1 relapse prevention strategy which can be utilized to support improved outcome for system-involved youth.

· Components of a relapse prevention plan

12:00-12:15pm Break (CE hours will not be offered for this time)

12:15-1:45pm Talking with youth about relapse

· Motivational interviewing overview

· Tips for talking with youth about relapse prevention

· Addressing coping skills and support systems

· Small group vignette discussions and large group debriefs

Meet Our Trainer

Nicole Klasey is a clinical psychologist who has worked with trauma survivors for 14 years. She currently consults with agencies on trauma-informed care, programming for commercially sexually exploited youth, vicarious trauma, and leadership development. Nicole has been training multidisciplinary audiences on trauma-related topics since 2015 and provides guest lectures at local universities on human trafficking.

This course meets the qualifications for (3.75) BBS CE hours for LCSWs, LMFTs, LPCCs, and LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences & is provided by Fred Finch Youth Center, CAMFT Provider #045295.
