All of Fred Finch’s programs are vital for the children we serve. FFYC becomes, in a sense, a family to our young people. We give them the emotional and physical space to heal, the limits they need to mature, and the knowledge they need to grow into healthy young adults.

Below is a short summary of our program areas. For more detailed information on individual programs, select from the drop-down menu above.

Specialized Residential Services

Fred Finch’s dual-diagnosis residential programs (for youth with developmental disabilities and emotional disturbance) operate at sites in Vacaville, San Diego, and on our main Oakland campus. They each provide 12 to 14 dual-diagnosis youth, ages 12 through 18, with comprehensive therapeutic, residential, and educational services. These programs serve as a national model, bringing together traditional mental health, residential, and educational services in a comprehensive approach that addresses the whole child.

Transition Age Youth Services

Our programs for transition-age youth provide comprehensive and individualized services to youth transitioning out of foster, residential, or family care and into adulthood, as well as supported transitional and permanent housing for youth who have been homeless or who are exiting the foster-care system and have mental-health diagnoses. We also offer vocational services through a multi-tiered approach of career exploration, job-skills development, and supervised work experience.

Community Mental Health and Wraparound Services

Our community-based programs offer a variety of services tailored to young people’s individual strengths and responsive to their needs. Whether providing stable support for foster-care youth who frequently move from one home to another, or encouraging parents and other caregivers to become active partners in their children’s care, or providing short-term therapeutic behavioral interventions aimed at reducing children’s “high end” behaviors, our staff demonstrates the benefits of serving youth in their home communities, by wrapping individualized services around them in their homes, classrooms, and community.

School-Based Services

For youth identified as having emotional difficulties, youth served by the probation system, and those at risk of more restrictive services, our school-based programs help young people continue living at home while accessing day-treatment and mental-health services. Our staff members form partnerships with teachers, school staff, families, and young people to make school the positive experience it ought to be.
